Calculating ovulation naturally means using your body's own signals instead of guessing from a generic 28-day average. Start with your cycle length
The simplest starting point is the calendar method. Track the length of your last several cycles, counting from the first day of one period to the first day of the next. That distinction matters because the second half of the cycle, known as the luteal phase, stays fairly fixed at around 14 days for most people, while the first half can vary quite a bit in length from cycle to cycle and from person to person.
Track basal body temperature
Basal body temperature, or BBT, is your temperature at rest before you get out of bed in the morning. After ovulation, rising progesterone causes a small but measurable increase, usually around 0.5 to 1 degree Fahrenheit. Taking your temperature with a basal thermometer at the same time each morning and charting it over a few cycles shows a pattern: a lower temperature phase, then a sustained shift upward after ovulation has already occurred. Watch cervical mucus changes
Cervical mucus changes texture across the cycle in response to shifting hormone levels. This texture helps sperm travel and survive, and its appearance is one of the more reliable signs that ovulation is close.
